A Wetroom is a complete waterproof floor system that allows seamless showering without steps, enclosure or platforms and in turn makes for a full invigorating experience. This can include fixed glass panels to conceal splashes or completely open with wall hung toilets and basins for that complete open wet area look with the added benefit of a bathroom which is much easier to clean and look after.

Wetrooms have evolved over the years, from the early poor efforts of ply board to purpose made gradient trays that replace existing floor board and covered in bitumen sheet membrane and then tiled. The modern day wet room procedure is superb and fully insured and guaranteed.

Can anyone have a wetroom?

In theory, yes. A wetroom is basically a shower room that does away with the shower screen and tray, and has an open, fully tiled shower area. 

Water drainage
Installing a wetroom is a job for the professionals as a gradient needs to be created along  the floor to channel the shower water
into a drain and then the entire room needs to be waterproofed. 

Popular methods include installing a ready-made sloping shower former (a bit like a giant shower tray) which is then tiled over, or
using a pre-formed gradient tray that slopes towards a drain which can be fitted across the entire floor without the need for tiling.

Waterproofing
Waterproofing the wetroom involves priming the floor, the lower 
section of the walls and the whole of the wall area around the shower and then covering with a bitchumin matting which gets dressed over floor and walls, before tiling.
